Officers with the County of Nassau Police Department say they arrested Rickie Roberts, 58, of North Valley Stream on Tuesday, Oct. 1 based on a mortgage fraud complaint made by two victims from Freeport on Saturday, Aug. 24.
After an investigation by Nassau County Police Department Fraud and Forgery Unit and the New York State Department of Financial Services, it was determined that Roberts showed the victims multiple properties in Bethpage over the course of three years while acting as a real estate agent, police say.
During this time, police say the victims had to make payments to cover banking fees and down payments to “show good faith.”
The victims provided Roberts with multiple cashier’s checks totaling more than $150,000, according to police.
Roberts was taken into custody without incident and charged with second-degree grand larceny and third-degree grand larceny. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at First District Court in Hempstead.
Police urge anyone that feels they may have been a victim of a similar crime to contact your local precinct or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous.
